A mixture of high and low arrangements adorned the tables at this romantic reception.  The tall centerpieces on beautiful gold stands were created with white hydrangeas, light blue hydrangeas, and light pink roses.  Around the centerpieces gold candle holders with votive candles added extra romance to this special day. The low arrangements were made using white hydrangeas light pink roses and porcellano spray roses with splashes of light blue delphinium.

Wedding Traditions: The Diamond Engagement Ring

NoblesWedding_1843

Photograph by Corinna Hoffman Photography
The glow of candlelight fills the room. Empty plates from a delicious homemade dinner by your loved one sit on the table. You walk out onto the balcony and smell the salt air. When you look to your right, your loved one is down on one knee with a stunning diamond ring. This beautiful scene or one similar to it happens 2 million times a year! So why the diamond ring?
The first recorded diamond ring was in 1447. The Archduke Maximilian of Austria presented a ring with flat pieces of diamond in the shape of an M to Mary of Burgundy. Diamond rings became more popular in the upper class. Then it began spreading to all. In 1886 the famous “Tiffany Setting” was introduced by Tiffany & Co. that featured 6 prongs to maximize the diamonds brilliance. Later that decade diamond engagement rings became more affordable and appeared in mail order catalogs, like Sears. Around the great depression diamond prices fell and the diamond engagement ring was going out of style with the younger generation. That is when De Beers created the campaign “A diamond is forever”. This slogan spurred more sales as it supported the American ideal of marriage being forever.
The diamond is still the most popular gem used in engagement rings today. 70% of brides in America have a diamond engagement ring. The diamond signifies strength and purity. What a beautiful symbol to represent the beginning of a marriage.

Flower of the Month: Bells of Ireland

BELLS OF IRELANDHave you ever seen this beautiful green flower? I’m sure with its magnificent green color and name you would think it must be from Ireland. Well, surprisingly, Bells of Ireland actually come from Syria and Turkey and other Mediterranean countries. The flower received its name because of its green shade and because it was typically used in arrangements for St. Patrick’s Day. This stunning flower grows up to 3 feet tall. The “bells” are 1-2 inch green calyxes, which surround their tiny white flowers. These flowers are almost hidden and give off a light scent. The meaning of this flower is good luck, luck be with you, or you will have good luck. Bells of Ireland look exquisite in vase arrangements, funeral sprays , and almost any arrangement that needs height. Call today and let our creative team send “good luck”  to someone special.

Flower of the Month: Amaryllis

IMG_0004

Amaryllis in Greek means to sparkle. There is a Greek myth that tells of how the flower came to be. There was a beautiful maiden named Amaryllis. Where Amaryllis lived there was a very handsome Shepherd who all the young maidens desired attention from. Especially Amaryllis. The handsome Shepherd was not interested in any of the young maidens. He was interested in his flowers and plants. He told them that whoever could bring him a flower he had never seen is who he would give his heart to. So Amaryllis went to the High Priestess and asked for advice. The High Priestess told her to take a golden arrow and pierce her heart. Then to go to the Shepherd’s house every day, taking the same path, until he notices her. Amaryllis followed the advice and took the same path for 29 days. Each day Amaryllis shed more and more blood on the way to the cottage and each day she was turned down. On the 30th day while waking her same path, flowers brushed her feet that she had never felt before. She looked down and the flowers were the most beautiful blood red flowers she had ever seen. She picked an armful and rushed to the Shepherd’s cottage. When he opened the door he was amazed. The girl and the flowers were the mot beautiful things he had ever seen. He asked her name and she told him. He said he would name the flower Amaryllis. The Shepherd fell in love with Amaryllis. Her heart was healed instantly and they lived happily ever after.

Christmas wreaths

Amaryllis have large showy blooms with green, strap- shaped leaves. The flowers are trumpet shaped and look similar to lilies. Stems can contain 1 or more blooms. Most are bright colors in shades of red, orange, and pink.   These flowers are native to tropical areas. The U.S. imports over 10 million a year mainly from South Africa and Holland. If kept indoors these flowers prefer bright, indirect sunlight.

Cymbidim Orchid: A New Holiday Favorite

Photo by Corinnna Hoffman

Photo by Corinna Hoffman

Thick, waxy flowers with five pointed petals per bloom and hollowness in the lip of the flower are the features of the beautiful Cymbidium Orchid. They grow on long branches with 6 or more blooms on each branch. This stunningly, unique flower comes in a rainbow of colors from white to yellow, green to pink, and red to brown. This flower is considered a gift of respect and friendship.

This plant bloom can last 4 weeks if taken care of properly. Place in a spot with light, but avoid the full heat of the sun. Fresh air is good for the plant. Make sure to water regularly, but avoid overwatering.

Kari & Joe | TPC Sawgrass | Ponte Vedra Wedding Florist

Kari & Joe said “I Do” in a beautiful outdoor ceremony under the palm trees at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra surrounded by their family & friends. Their wedding was filled with love and of course blooming with flowers.

Kari was a picturesque bride in her strapless wedding gown. She chose glorious shades of pink for her floral colors, and we love how the hues mix together seamlessly and how they standout among the accents of ivory and green.

Laura & Ben | Marriott Sawgrass | Ponte Vedra Wedding Florist

Laura & Ben were married in a beautiful ceremony at the Marriott Sawgrass. We adored Laura’s gorgeous Kleinfeld dress, seriously….she’s beyond gorgeous! But of course, our favorite part of their day besides helping dream up a vision for these two, was realizing that vision and implementing a wondrous day full of floral arrangements. Read below to see how we made their vision come true.

We loved working with Dan Hathcock and Christina Kopecki on this event.

Laura’s bouquet was a hand tied bouquet created with white & blush peonies. Her stems were wrapped with ivory satin ribbon.

{The Bridal Party}

For the bridal party we created 11 hand tied bouquets using ivory garden roses, blush ranunculus, white lisianthus and a touch of greenery and Queen Anne’s lace. Half of the stems were wrapped with ivory satin ribbon. Their look was completed with simply stunning floral crows.

Jacksonville_Wedding_Florist

{The Groom}

Ben’s boutonniere was created with white ranunculus.

{The Ceremony}

We used two silver urns with large silk white rose orbs to create a dramatic entrance into the ceremony room. These were then moved to entrance of the reception room. Multi-purposing your arrangements is a great way to get more out of your investment.

Jacksonville_Wedding_Florist

{The Chuppa}

The chuppa was decorated with flowers including hydrangeas, stock, roses, larkspur, orchids, spray roses, white snapdragons, green hanging amaranthus and mixed airy foliage. The flowers cascaded across the top with an organic look and two organic arrangements were placed at the base of the two front poles. The chuppa was draped with fabric on the poles and a covering was applied. To top off the ceremony space, ivory and blush rose petals scattered down the center of the aisle.
